A plain-language summary of how Recircuit Collective is organized, who is responsible for what, and how donated hardware and funds are handled.
Last updated: August 19, 2026
Article I — Name and purpose
The organization is called Recircuit Collective. Our purpose is to reduce electronic waste and widen access to engineering education by collecting donated electronics, repurposing usable hardware into hands-on robotics workshops for young people in New York City, and passing the remaining material to responsible recyclers.
Article II — Leadership
Recircuit Collective is led by its co-founders, supported by workshop leads who plan and run sessions. Co-founders share responsibility for strategy, partnerships, and finances. Workshop leads are responsible for curriculum, materials, and participant safety at their sessions.
- Co-founders: overall direction, partnerships, budgets, and public reporting.
- Workshop leads: session planning, equipment preparation, and on-site supervision.
- Volunteers: collection, sorting, testing, and event support.
Article III — Decisions
Day-to-day decisions are made by the co-founders. Decisions that change our programs, budget commitments, or partnerships are made jointly, with input from the workshop leads affected. Where the co-founders cannot agree, the decision is deferred until a shared position is reached.
Article IV — Meetings
The team meets regularly to review collections, plan upcoming workshops, and check progress against our community goals. Notes from those meetings are kept internally and inform the impact figures published on this site.
Article V — Donations and finances
All donated hardware and funds are used solely to advance the purpose in Article I: workshop materials, transport, storage, and recycling costs. No donation is distributed as personal profit to members of the organization. Records of collections and expenditure are maintained by the co-founders.
Article VI — Conduct and safety
Everyone taking part in our programs is expected to treat participants, volunteers, and hosts with respect, follow safety instructions when handling electronics and tools, and protect the privacy of the people we work with. Conduct that puts participants at risk ends involvement with the organization.
Article VII — Amendments
These bylaws may be amended by agreement of the co-founders. The current version and its date are published on this page. For a written copy or questions about our governance, email recurcuitcollective@gmail.com.
